Simon Saturday | Watercoloring Sheets Review

Hello lovelies, I hope you are having a great day so far. The sun is actually peeking out here after hiding all week and I hope it is shining for you too.

It is Simon Saturday and this week we are going to be reviewing the Watercoloring Sheets from Simon. So grab a coffee/tea and get comfy.

As promised on my post for the Best Days release I ordered one of the Watercoloring sheets to review.

Before I get fully into the review I just wanted to state that I purchased this with my own money and this review is not sponsored in anyway, my opinions given here are my own

There was 6 of these sheets released and they are various patterns on watercolor card stock along with Daniel Smith Watercolor dots along the top of the sheet. The sheets are 8.5" x 5.5" with a colouring area of 6.25"x 4.75" So a really nice sized area. The retail for $4.75

I went for the Heartful sheet and it arrived in a plastic wrap to protect it.

I have seen a lot of people use these for travelling etc so I decided to use with a water brush whilst watching Netflix with hubs.

I will start off saying I am rubbish with water brushes so my colouring is not the best. I also wasn't sure about how i would like this as I never really took to the whole adult colouring book thing and honestly i do struggle with colouring large patterns such as these.

That being said I like that they have ones with fairly simple patterns such as the one i chose, but they also have detailed patterns.

Daniel Smith watercolours are well known for being one of the best watercolours you can buy, they are expensive so this also gives you a chance to try them if you haven't done so before. To use the dots use just touch a wet brush to them to activate them and use away. I found the colour rich and lovely to use, I also like that it was colours i would normally pick, but loved how they went together.

After some playing around i coloured the main heart area as i knew i was going to cut that out to use on a card...another plus is if you are slightly creative you will be able to get more than one card out of these.

I did nothing fancy ( mainly due to my incapability to use waterbrushes) and was impressed. It was really easy to just have it sat on my lap. As you can see there is plenty of the dots left too.

This is the card i created, i kept it fairly simple as i wanted the heart to be the main focal point.

I also have the rest of the sheet left for another card which i really did like.

So here are my thoughts about the watercolour sheets-

  • They are nice quality, Daniel Smith paints are considered to be the best watercolor paints you can buy.

  • The patterns are really beautiful, even if they are very detailed.

  • You can get more than one card from each sheet.

  • They are great for crafting away from your craft room

  • The colours can push you out of your comfort a good way.

  • The sheet is a nice size.

I only have one negative which is other than this one most of the other sheets are very detailed so some might find them intimidating, I think if Simon did more like the Heartful one with larger areas and not so detailed then it would be great.

So would i buy these again....I think for the price and the fact you are getting such good quality products you cannot go wrong. The detailed work is slightly intimidating, but this could be a good thing and encourage me to take on more detailed work.

Would I recommend them...Yes, especially if you are someone who travels, they would be great for travelling and i could see these working great if you have a long journey or just want to get in a little crafting time in front of the tv like i did. They are nice and cheap too, so even if you want to just try out Daniel Smith watercolours this could be a good way to do so.

I hope this review helped. Would you like to see more reviews ? If so let me know in the comments below.

Don't forget to also comment below to be entered into my monthly giveaway.

There is also still time to enter the Simon Says Stamp Blog Hop for the latest Fluttering By release. The post can be found here.

Thank you so much for stopping by today, I hope you have a great weekend.

Happy Crafting.

  1. Thanks for the review. It's helpful! I like how you can potentially get multiple cards out of one sheet.

Thanks so much I'm so glad you liked it 😀

  5. Fabulous review, Tracy, of the printed sheets and the Daniel Smith paints. Wonderful to read about stretching beyond your comfort zone in tackling these. Despite all my efforts, water-colouring (whether with distress inks, tombows, gansai tambi or big collection of 12) and I do NOT have a good relationship! Stress inducing (not to mention time/paper wasted...) for me, but oh, how I enjoy what others accomplish! Your card is absolutely beautiful! Yes please to more reviews!! What are you watching on Netflix? We're into Riverdale...before that, it was Stranger Things. We don't watch much TV: Food Network for the most part; Master Chef Junior and Top Chef Canada on the radar now, and hoping to see some cycling soon (Giro d'Italia isn't too far away!).
    Happy Saturday!

  6. Your coloring is anything but rubbish, my friend! Truly a gorgeous card design with the stripes (love the gold one) & sentiment to fit the heart! The dots of watercolor have intrigued me, so thanks for the review, Tracy!

Thanks so much my lovely. I used to be awful and hated watercolour mediums but one day I tried it after a looooong break from it and ignoring all the tutorials lol I fell in love with it.
At the moment we are rewatching Brooklyn 99. I have never seen Riverdale what is it like ? We loved stranger things and sadly stayed up for the new series and then watched it all in one go (crazy I know)
    I hope you're having a great weekend :)

  9. just beautiful . hugs from Norway

  10. Thanks for this very helpful review. I was wondering about buying one of these cards. And because international shipping is so expensive, I don’t want to get wrong stuffs I wouldn’t like. So reviews like yours is really helping me out a lot !! Love from France, Marjorie
